Bits

The combination of things in my stomach right now (and the high ratio of alcohol to food that have taken in today) is making me feel so incredibly nauseous.

Ick. What I wouldn't give for some Reglan.

Last night the Jinx did a superman off the second story balcony and had to spend some hours at the pet emergency room.

There seem to be no lasting ill effects.

I've been invited to a New Kids on the Block concert in KC in November.

Sweet.

Only I'm kind of confused about why a boy band from the 80's is selling $70 concert tickets...?

Seriously?

Bizarre.

Who else wants to go?

5.30.2008

Oh my. Friday already?

Last night had some restaurant style guacamole that while not on the same level of bliss as made it myself guacamole was snarfed down nonetheless. And a mojito which was fab and went down quite smoothly mainly because pretty sure they forgot to put the rum in it and so it was basically a lemon lime soda with some mint leaves.

Right now am thinking of heading to the liquor store for rum or gin or beer or all three only maybe not in my pajamas. Or maybe so.

Tomorrow up early (which I hate but need to get used to) for a spin on the bike, a trip to the farm stand for (hopefully !) organic sweet corn, and dim sum with some crazy but lots of fun friends.

Happy weekend to you.

Get some fresh air and some sun and something good to eat.

You'll like it. Promise.

Request

Could it please be time for ripe avocados?

Please?

I need a giant vat of guacamole.

MmmMmmm.
Good morning, sleepyheads.

I've decided today to study a bit and also to watch The Price is Right and to go to the bookstore and find something interesting to read.

Yesterday baked some oatmeal cookies with fat jumbo flame raisins and crunchy cereal flakes. They are quite good and use spelt flour and fruit juice. No dairy, no wheat, no eggs. I am pretending they are like health food and eating one for breakfast. (Please disregard the brown sugar and canola oil...)

The only other thing on my to-do list for the day is to take part in some kind of physical activity to counteract the cookie for breakfast and perhaps vacuum.

So as you can see I continue to be a very busy and important person.

I'll try to squeeze you in though if you want to, like, hang out or something.

Heinz 57 and Pickles

Hi.

How was your weekend?

Mine was winsome and refreshing.

Our outing into the hill country yielded condiments, sun kissed noses, and more mediocre Mexican food.

My partner is such a treat and complements me quite perfectly.

Feeling full to overflowing and incredibly fortunate.

Hope you're the same.

Happy Three-Day Weekend

Got up (relatively) early to see my love off on a bike ride and to make a trip to the farmer's market. It is kind of a pain to get to and after driving in a huge ass circle two or three times was super frustrated and ready to just forget about it when a light shone down from heaven illuminating the cluster of little white tents and all the markety abundant goodness they contain.

Filled my shopping bag with most of the makings for Monday's planned festivities. We are having a cookout with burgers and coleslaw and sweet, yeasty half-moon shaped pastries stuffed with fresh blackberry filling.

My love should be home soon and we are going to grab some classification of Asian food for lunch and make a stop at the grocery for some staples and the rest of the needed items for Monday.

Last night we went to see the new Indiana Jones flick (worthwhile if only for Harrison Ford in that hat and Cate Blanchett's cheekbones) and tomorrow night we are trekking out to the provinces for a wine dinner starring Boyfriend as The Wine Guy so tonight we are going to just hang out around here and be lazy.

I've gotten really good at being lazy lately.

Think this is a marketable skill?

Hope so.

5.23.2008

Last night couldn't sleep and kept dreaming that there was going to be a massive food shortage and needed to be stockpiling bags of flour and sugar and cans of corn and tomatoes.

Then this morning when woke up was a raging bitch up until the point that I ate a giant plate of scrambled eggs and toast with apple butter.

Few hours later was hungry again, ate some pasta with sauce and a chunk of bread, and fell asleep watching bad t.v.

Now am all afternoon nap groggy and can't quite regain a grip on reality.

New job starting in 23 days (killer vacation. be jealous.) and scheduled to take the NCLEX-RN 8 days later.

Gonna be a grown up yet.

5.22.2008

Forwarded e-mail from Brother in Colombia has me pondering the ways that genetics + environment = various personality traits. Now that my siblings and I are growing up it is interesting to see the similarities and differences between us.

For instance the mere idea of up and moving to Colombia to teach and work on my writing makes me start to have a panic attack.

While thinking such deep thoughts have also managed to burn up the vacuum cleaner. Think so anyway. Don't really know much about vacuum cleaners except that when turn it on nothing happens. Which is unfortunate as with two long haired cats in the intensifying Texas heat a vacuum is a necessity.

And in other feline news: Boyfriend's bad ass cat the Jinx, who has taken to chewing through any kind of string she can get her hands on, just came in from the patio with one of my favorite shirts, which she snatched from the drying rack, in her mouth like a trophy. She seems very proud for having chewed off one of the straps.

Bad.ass.cat.

The only other exciting thing happening is an update on my battle with the infamous can of prunes.

Boyfriend ate one and likes them and told me he would help finish them off only if I publicly admitted defeat.

To which I say, "Never !!" (I'm like Hilary, without the Botox-related perma-excited facial expression.)

So yesterday ate one with breakfast, two on the side of the road leaning on my bike and gasping for air halfway up a hill that nearly killed me, and another in the evening just because I'm hardcore.

That leaves nine more until can call myself the victor.

Prepare to meet your doom, nature's candy.

Prepare to meet your doom.

Lest you think my entire life is filled with fabulous food and sweet little activities...

Elements from yesterday

12 hours on I-35

Mexican food that was eerily identical to varieties of frozen dinners

A 90 cent pecan roll from the Czech Stop*

Rockin'.

Today finished pre-employment activities for the job.

Orientation starts June 16th.

Nothing else to report.

Over and out.

*Believe me when I tell you that I am not hatin' on the Czech Stop or it's pecan rolls. Both hold a special place in my heart. The polka music filling the air at the gas pump. The slightly dirty bathrooms. The many and varied items available to cause a significant spike in your blood sugar. Who doesn't love that? I just don't think it really qualifies as a great food choice. Agreed?

5.18.2008

Good morning.

The weekend here is nice.

Yesterday bike ride in the rain (just a light drizzle) which cleared up just in time for a post ride picnic with potato salad, root beer, and fresh Bing cherries.

Right now my love is off on a boy adventure. Cat and Jinx are outside watching birds. I am sitting in bed under the blankets thinking of maybe getting up.

Later: Mexican breakfast for lunch and some chores that need to be done around the house.

Perhaps a trip to the cosmetic boutique for some mascara and a new shade of eye shadow.

Exciting, I know.

Tuesday I go to finish filling out paperwork for my new job(!).

I'll be starting early to mid June.

It makes me nervous.

Here's to not killing anyone!

How To Be Suave

Dear dude at Starbucks,

You should wear just a little cologne so that chicks will want to get closer to you to get a better whiff.

That is considerably less that the amount that makes it so that when I walk by on the sidewalk it overpowers me as you sit twenty feet away on your match.com awkward first date.

Just sayin'.

Sincerely yours,

Random girl walking on the sidewalk

Rainbow Over Texas

Decided to use some past-their-prime apples to make a jar of apple butter and nearly sliced off the end of my thumb chopping. (Maybe not almost off...but it could use a stitch or two or three.)

But what is a thumb compared to fresh biscuits slathered with apple butter?
A mere pittance.

Don't you laugh either.
Apple butter makes the short list of things (you'll find it well ahead of my honor) that I'll go to blows defending.

Also brewed some sun tea in a wide mouth mason jar and am sitting on the patio sipping on it (directly from said jar) waiting for a pot of Anasazi beans to cook so they can be pureed, baked down, and take their place alongside some tacos later tonight.

Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?

And by hot I mean at home in the kitchen where she belong.

Hello.

Packed up all my crap and 42 pounds of cat.

Residing in the ATX.

Waiting for authorization to take the NCLEX and become fully employed.

Vegetable kabobs, grilled pork with tomatillo jalapeno chutney, and wild rice blend for din din.

Tomorrow you can find me at Boggy Creek Farm, waddling my chubby ass 'round Town Lake, napping, or lounging by the pool.

Spring fabulous weather is so nice.

Spending 7-hours during spring fabulous weather inside a classroom taking a class on taking a test is making me so cranky.

So.cranky.

Soon I am moving to live with my lover.

Lots to write.

Soon.

Right now taking a practice test and eating a baked potato and some corn.

Fat girl loves her some carbs.

5.05.2008

Saw some girls in shorts and bikini tops swinging on the swings at the park and it made me smile.

5.04.2008

Been moping about most of the day chilly, unshowered, clad in three day old sweatpants.

Imagine my surprise on finally peeking outside to find it's sunny and warm with toasty winds from the south.

Woodchuck came up from her burrow to discover she had missed the first plump tasty buds of spring.

Maybe shower, put on clean sweatpants, and spend the rest of the day moping about in the fresh air.

5.03.2008

Done not a thing today.

Only noon though so there still is time.

Does a nap count as something?

5.01.2008

So far have completed one item from my to-do list.

And it wasn't mowing the yard.

(Hint: Bright pink toenails !!)

It's hot and humid here and oh so delicious after the too long, hanging on for dear life winter.

Thinking much about things to come.

Partnership and job and home and love.

I want to learn to fiddle and to spin wool into yarn.
