Yesterday was my first 12 hours with my nurse preceptor.
Happy to report that made it through one day with nary a bowel movement in sight.
There was, however, nasty yellow cerebrospinal fluid dripping out of a person's head into a bag, copious amounts of urine, and plenty of narcotic counting.
The MRSA had me sticking my finger up somebody else's nose to apply antibiotic ointment and the Hep C made an appearance.
Right at the end of the day there was a somewhat disturbing occurrence involving a bleeding jugular vein. Once the situation is under control Preceptor tells patient he is really impressed with how calm she stayed throughout.
Her response, with perfect deadpan delivery: "I saw it on ER once."
Ah, the wonders of television.
Who says it's not educational?
